Altinkum
Altinkum
is situated on the Aegean Coast about one hour's drive north of Bodrum.
There are many historical sites in the region, most famously the ancient
city of Ephesus (which is about one hour's drive from Altinkum and is
well worth a trip) and also the Temple of Apollo and Miletas Theatre,
both just a short drive away.
The main tourist season is from May to October, although it is usually
pleasantly warm throughout the year and many restaurants/bars in
Altinkum open throughout.
The
name Altinkum means "Golden Sands" and it has three of the best beaches
on the Aegean Coast with golden sand, crystal clear blue sea, gently
shelving shore, lifeguards and plenty of sunbeds for hire - all ideal
for families. It offers a variety of watersports, including scuba diving
as well as banana boats. A pedestrianised promenade with bars,
restaurants and shops runs along the back of the beach while Dolphin
Square comes alive at night and offers more lively bars and restaurants.
The new marina is due to be complete in 2008. With two golf courses
planned for the near future
The easy to use (and cheap) Dolmus bus makes it easy to get around and
the ancient Temple of Apollo and the new Aquapark are both just a few
minutes' ride away and well worth a visit.
There are plenty of other things to do too with boat trips, horse
riding, local markets, shopping outlets, jeep safaris, turkish baths and
a ferry to the island of Kos all available. Places to visit include
Ephesus (one of the world's most famous ancient Roman cities), Miletas
Theatre which dates back to 400BC, Pamukkale (a natural wonder of
thermal springs stalactites, white moon craters and crystallised
waterfalls) Dalyan Turtle Beach (home to the loggerhead turtles with
spectacular scenery in one of Turkey's largest national parks), Bafa
Lake, with several ruins around its shores and the Soke Designer shops
(go with an empty suitcase and come home with a wardrobe of designer
wear)
Altinkum has a friendly and welcoming atmosphere and is popular with
British tourists.
